Tidying up

A big mess and a cat in the box

After a few art shows in May and June, our apartment is a big mess.
Before I start promoting my "ABC Paris" book and start a new project, I need to clean up. The papers, books, and boxes are all over our living room, I just don't know where to start putting things away. 

Après quelques expositions en mai et juin, notre appartement est un grand bor... désordre.
Avant que je commence la promotion de mon livre "ABC Paris" et que je commence un nouveau projet, Je dois ranger. Les papiers, livres et les boites envahissent notre salon, je ne sais pas par où commencer à ranger les choses.

Timely, J.-Y. offered me the book "The Life-Changing Magic of tidying up" by Marie Kondo. I read the book and I have been inspired by it. What she says in the book is so true; we keep too many things that we don't need and we don't even care which take up too much space. So the first thing is to get rid of them and keep only "spark joy" for us. We need to sort things out throughly and completely and decide where our possessions belong so everything we own have their own place. My problem has been that I have not yet designated space for my proper belongings, so I don't know where to put them. 
I am definitely trying her method of tidying up, until now... I did not have any method.

Il y a quelques temps, J.-Y. m'a offert le livre "The Life-Changing Magic of tidying up" ("la magie du rangement") par Marie Kondo. J'ai lu le livre et il m'a inspirée. Ce qu'elle dit est vrai : Nous gardons trop de choses dont nous n'avons même pas besoin et nous ne faisons même plus attention à ce qui occupe tant de place. Donc la première chose à faire est de s'en débarrasser et de conserver uniquement nos "étincelles de bonheur". Nous devons trier les choses véritablement, complètement et décider où nos possessions doivent être pour que chaque chose soit à sa place. Mon problème est que je n'ai pas encore décidé où mes affaires doivent être rangées, alors je ne sais pas où les mettre.
Je vais vraiment appliquer sa méthode de rangement puisque jusqu'à présent... je n'avais pas de méthode.

Marie Kondo said that we should make "tidying up a special event, not a daily chore." So, that's what I challenge to do : Instead of celebrating the 4th of July, I am tidying up our apartment once for all.

Marie Kondo dit que "le rangement doit être un évènement spécial, pas un travail de routine". C'est donc ce que je vais essayer de faire : Au lieu de fêter le 4 juillet, je vais tenter de ranger notre appartement une bonne fois pour toutes.

As the book says: When you start to clean up, start with clothes. 
So far, I have successfully folded all socks according to her method and put them in a shoe box!

Comme le dit le livre : Quand vous commencez à ranger, commencez par les vêtements. Pour l'instant j'ai réussi à plier toutes les chaussettes selon sa méthode pour les ranger dans une boîte à chaussures !
