Mother of vinegar

Since we have a few good old red wine bottles which became too old to drink, I have been wanting to make my own red wine vinegar. I was wondering who would have the mother of vinegar to share with me. 

Parce que nous avons quelques vielles bouteilles de bon vin qui ont passé l'âge d'être bues, j'ai voulu faire mon propre vinaigre de vin. Je me suis demandé qui pourrait avoir une mère de vinaigre à partager avec moi.

Last weekend, we went to visit our friends in l'Yonne and guess what? Nathalie has been making her own wine vinegar for 26 years! Last year she found a mother of vinegar in the bottom of the old apple cider vinegar. She washed it, place it in a "vinaigrier" (vinegar making pot) and has been making very good red wine vinegar at home.
Nathalie kindly shared her mother of vinegar with me.

Le week-end dernier nous sommes allés voir nos amis dans l'Yonne et devinez quoi ? Nathalie fait son propre vinaigre de vin depuis 26 ans ! L'année dernière elle a trouvé une mère au fond d'une vieille bouteille de vinaigre de cidre. Elle l'a lavée, déposée dans un vinaigrier et fait du très bon vinaigre de vin "maison".
Nathalie a gentiment partagée sa mère de vinaigre avec moi.

This is my first time trying to make homemade vinegar.
C'est la première fois que je vais essayer de faire du vinaigre de vin.

Nathalie told me to use a wooden spoon to manipulate the mother of vinegar and never with a metal. 
Then I must pour some good old red wine just to cover the mother of vinegar, cover the jar with cheese cloth then leave it for two weeks. 
I can leave the jar in the kitchen cabinet, and after two weeks, I can add some more wine to it.

Nathalie m'a dit d'utiliser une cuiller en bois pour manipuler la mère de vinaigre et de ne jamais utiliser de métal.  
Puis je dois commence par verser un vieux bon vin rouge pour juste recouvrir la mère de vinaigre, couvrir le pot avec un tissu aéré et laisse reposer pendant deux semaines.
Je peux laisser le pot dans le placard de la cuisine, et après deux semaines je peux rajouter du vin.

It takes a few weeks or a few months for the wine to become vinegar, it is all depending on the quality of the red wine.

Cela prend quelques semaines ou quelques mois pour que le vin devienne vinaigre, cela dépend de la qualité du vin.

I will just wait and see. In a month or two, I will taste it and see if the red wine turns into a good vinegar.  

Je  vais juste attendre et surveiller. Dans un mois ou deux je vais le goûter et voir si le vin se transforme en bon vinaigre.

Une bouteille (a bottle), une mère de vinaigre (a mother of vinegar), une cuiller (a spoon) are feminine words.
The word "cuiller" can also be written "cuillère"
