The French phonetic method roots from the year 1762 when the pastor Jean George Stuber published the book « Alphabet Méthodique ». It was a little book of 52 pages with 47 lessons to teach children and adults how to read and spell. Stuber decomposed words then isolated each part into precise pronunciation and spelling. His method was like a music professor teaching his students music notes before teaching them to play music. After studying all the segments of pronunciation the students were able to read on their own.
The phonetic method has a surprising result on students, it is a powerful tool in learning French.
